Hi, in this article, i will tell you about the terms on android. Maybe you’re a little confused when encountering unfamiliar terms on android. therefore, I will give a little explanation to you. Moreover, if you want to perform customization on your android, of course you will often find this term.

what is ROM or Firmware?

ROM or Firmware is where the operating system running on our phone to install. In this case the Google Android version 4.0.4 ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich), android gingerbread 2.3, android jelly bean 4.1, and others.
if you change the ROM means you actually reinstall your OS into smartphone.

what is called a custom rom?

Custom ROM is a customized Android OS that meet the wishes of the creator of Custom ROM. No ROM devoted to battery, there is targeted for Performance. So, to choose a ROM which suits you, get back to yourself.

What is a kernel?

Kernel is part of smartphones’s handling Drivers, Power Management, etc. therefore indirectly affect the performance of smartphone’s large enough itself. there are many existing custom kernel, but not all match the existing custom ROM.

What is root / rooting ?

Root is the user account in Linux (Linux-based Android development) that has access to everything. Root user can edit anything on the system. For security reasons, a normal user does not have all the access in the system. When we do the rooting then we will have access to read and write in the system which previously owned and we also possible to run multiple commands in Terminal.

How do I check the firmware in android smartpohone (eg:samsung)

Type * # 1234 # then the screen will display third firmware version (PDA, Modem, CSC). Do not be shocked or surprised if the firmware version may be different from each other even when flashing / firmware updates we only use 1 version of firmware.

What is recovery mode?

Recovery mode is the mode used to do flashing ROM / kernel / CWM flashable zip without using odin, wipe data / factory reset, backup and restore ROM, wipe Dalvik cache, and wipe battery stat. So that recovery can be used in an optimal fashion, it is advisable to install Clockwork Mod which has been incorporated into the kernel used for rooting.
